The Acorn Theory by James Hillman, presented in his book The Soul's Code, is a key concept in Archetypal Psychology. The core idea is that every person is born with a unique potential and an inner destiny already inscribed, just as an acorn contains the blueprint for becoming a specific oak tree. Hillman calls this innate potential the Daimon (or guardian angel), an entity that is not the product of environment or childhood experiences (thus criticizing traditional psychology), but is the calling that drives us from birth towards our authentic realization. The meaning of life is therefore not in 'becoming' something external, but in recognizing, following, and cultivating this inner 'fundamental image' to live a full and meaningful existence.
