Alice Reina is a porcelain artist based in Turin, Italy.
.
Graduating in Architecture from the Politecnico di Torino, in 2015 she founded her design studio focused on contemporary porcelain, which operates in two directions: the more rational one related to design and functional porcelain, and the conceptual one dedicated to the artistic research.
.
Whether designing functional everyday objects under the name of biancodichina or more sculptural, intuitive pieces under Alice Reina name, both identities share the same inspirations and are guided by values of originality, sensitivity, and a deep connection with the material.
.
Alice is particularly drawn to the concept of fragility - a recurring theme in her work. Through each creation, she invites the viewer to experience this fragility -sometimes through performative interactions - as a delicate tension between desire and apprehension. Her works evoke the paradoxical sensation of holding something almost immaterial, in equilibrium between the beauty of translucent surfaces and the tension that accompanies the thought of its breaking, inviting reflection on our relationship with the impermanence of all things.
.
Alice Reina works primarily with the slab-building technique, shaping fine porcelain sheets entirely by hand. Each project, be it a delicate sculpture, a piece of jewelry, or a functional object, is approached with meticulous care. She pays particular attention to surface and texture - some pieces are silky - smooth, others rough and tactile - exploring the sensual dimension of porcelain. She developed her own technique by tinting the porcelain in the mass, adding pigments directly into the paste to develop a unique chromatic palette. This technique allows her to create deep, velvety volumes that interact subtly with light, bringing her bespoke pieces to life.
